Itinerary Greenland Northeast
Northern parts of Greenland is located at about 80 degrees North, so we schedule this expedition in accordance with prevailing weather and ice conditions. The expedition will start in Longyearbyen (Svalbard) and end in Akureyri (Iceland). An Itinerary layout for a Northeast Greenland expedition is described below together with a map illustrating a possible sailing route. Please note that the sea ice conditions at the end of August varies from year to year, so it is not possible to know in advance which areas on the northeastern coast of Greenland will be available for landings and zodiac cruises.
DAY 1 - Departure from Longyearbyen (Svalbard) through Isfjorden.
DAY 2-3 - Northwestern coast of Spitsbergen, with possible visits to Kongsfjorden, and maybe also further north to Magdalenefjorden, Smeerenburgfjorden, and Raudfjorden where we will have great landscapes, glaciers and possibilities to view and photograph wildlife.
DAY 4-5 - Heading west toward Greenland, where we at some point will meet the drifting sea ice. In this area, we hope to have encounters with Polar bears, seals, whales, and ice-dependent birds.
DAY 6-12 - Exploring the northeastern coast of Greenland toward Scoresby Sound. Depending on the sea ice condition we will visit areas with sea ice and fjords with great mountains and icebergs.
DAY 13 - Exploring the outer parts of Scoresby Sound.
DAY 14 - At sea, heading toward Akureyri (Iceland).
DAY 15 - Disembarking the ship in Akureyri (Iceland) ending the expedition.
