The main focus of this Svalbard Classic photography tour will be Polar bears in the drifting ice, high Arctic wildlife, and stunning landscapes. Svalbard is the best place on earth to photograph Polar bears, and we usually find good numbers of them. The ice condition at this time of year usually allows us to explore the northeastern parts of the archipelago. We can also photograph other animals like Walrus, Bearded seals, Ringed seals, Humpback whales, Fin whales, Blue whales, and Belugas. In July / August the seabirds are leaving the cliffs, and we hope to get some nice photo opportunities of birds like the Brünnichs guillemots on this Svalbard photography tour. We will schedule longer stops than usual when going ashore to provide participants with enough time to get excellent pictures. On all our Svalbard photography tours we use two zodiac boats to get closer to the wildlife on the ice or when exploring and searching for photo opportunities in front of the glaciers. This Svalbard Classic photography tour is for nature photographers who want to travel in small groups and have more time with the wildlife. This is a true expedition!

Svalbard is located at about 80 degrees North, so we schedule our Svalbard photography tours in accordance with prevailing weather and ice conditions. Based on previous photo expeditions in July and August we plan to use the travel route as illustrated on the map, but this may change due to ice, weather and other conditions.

DAY 1 - Departure from Longyearbyen through Isfjorden in the evening.


DAY 2-4 - Heading toward the ice, searching for Polar bears. Depending on the ice conditions, this will probably be north of Spitsbergen and Nordaustlandet.

DAY 5 - East toward Storøya, searching for Polar bears and Walrus.

DAY 6 - Sailing south toward Bråsvellbreen and into Hinlopen with Walrus and bird cliffs.


DAY 7-9 - Liefdefjorden with the Monaco glacier, northwestern corner of Spitsbergen with Walrus, seals and great landscapes. South to Kongsfjorden, with glaciers, birds and marine mammals. Return to Longyearbyen late in the evening.

DAY 10 - Disembarking the ship and prepare the travel home.

NOTE: One more day in northern/eastern parts of Svalbard is added to the itinerary for 11-day (10 nights) trips (14.07-24.07 & 24.07-03.08).

Our Svalbard Ice Lover photo expedition has been a great success and WildPhoto Travel has made these June and early July expeditions a classic. Here we will give you the chance to photograph the Arctic wilderness and its wildlife, while snow and ice are still covering the archipelago. Later in the season, the drifting ice will shrink and eventually disappear. If you love ice as we do, you should join us on one of these early-season Svalbard photo expeditions! As always we will schedule longer stops than normal cruises on our Svalbard photo expedition to provide participants with enough time to get excellent pictures. We use two zodiac boats for exploring and searching for photo opportunities. This is the Svalbard photo expedition for photographers who want to travel in small groups and work with wildlife in white landscapes. We hope to observe and photograph wildlife such as polar bears, Walrus, seals, and reindeer, in addition to numerous birds who are preparing for their breeding season in the Arctic. The group size is limited to 12 participants giving us plenty of space and time to explore and photograph the magical Arctic landscape and wildlife.
