Martin Berg
Martin is a biologist and polar guide from Sweden. After finishing the Swedish military service in the Navy Marines, he found himself working from field camps deep in the Amazon rainforest to carry out conservation assessments and bird surveys for BirdLife International. This experience led him to return home to Sweden to earn an honors degree in biology at Lund University, followed by a master’s degree in marine biology divided between Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre in Canada and Lund University in Sweden. Throughout his career, Martin has since then contributed to numerous research and conservation projects, focusing on seabird ecology in the Atlantic Ocean, New Zealand, Antarctica, and wildlife conservation in the Amazon rainforest.

Currently, Martin dedicates four months of each year to leading expeditions to Svalbard, South Georgia, and Antarctica. The remainder of his time is devoted to wildlife conservation and research worldwide.

Martin visited Svalbard for the first time with his mother at the age of 10. Since then, its rugged landscape and unique wildlife have drawn him back season after season. Martin has deep knowledge about all the mammals, birds, and plants on Svalbard and is constantly on the lookout for the next wildlife encounter.
