Explore South Georiga in late season
We invite you to join us on this 19-day (18 nights) South Georgia and Falkland Islands photo expedition. WildPhoto Travel will be chartering the entire ship, M/V Polar Pioneer, for a photographer-only expedition 6-24 February 2024. There will be a maximum of 50 guests, together with 5-6 guides. Get ready for an exciting photo expedition to South Georgia and the Falkland Islands!
The main focus on this photo expedition will be penguins, seabirds, seals and landscapes. South Georgia is one of the hotspots for breeding King penguins, Gentoo penguins, and Macaroni penguins. We will plan for early landings on the beaches to get the best light conditions, which you will miss on ordinary tourist trips. There are also breeding colonies of albatrosses on the islands.
Antarctic fur seals are leaving the beaches in February, making life easier for photographers when walking on the beach. Penguin chicks are possible to photograph this time of the year and might be the highlights of this trip. February is also a good time for whales such as minke, humpback, and orca that can be seen in the area.
On our way from Ushuaia to South Georgia we will schedule 2-3 landings with zodiacs in the Falkland Islands. These islands are great for photography with species like Rockhopper and Magellanic penguins that we will not see in South Georgia. The weather might be rough in the Falkland Islands, so it is not possible with a confirmed itinerary in this area before we know the weather conditions.
With our itinerary for the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, this expedition is perfect for nature photographers.
