SVALBARD AUTUMN LIGHT
The main subjects on this Autumn Light Svalbard photo tour will be wildlife and landscapes in stunning late season light. Svalbard is the best place on earth to photograph Polar Bears, and we hope to find some of them in the best light available. The ice situation at this time of year usually also allows us to explore the north-eastern parts of the archipelago, making this a very special Svalbard photo tour.
September is a great time for watching and photographing big whales, and we have good chances of finding Blue Whale, Fin Whale, Humpback Whale, Mink Whale, Beluga and the White-beaked Dolphins. The light conditions are great at this time of year, so get ready for some stunning wildlife photography. This is the Svalbard photo tour for nature photographers focusing on great light. Join us for an unforgettable experience!
As usual on all our Svalbard photo tours we will schedule longer stops than normal tourist cruises, when going ashore, in order to provide participants with enough time to get excellent pictures. We use 2 zodiac boats to get ashore or when searching for the wildlife at sea.
IMAGES FROM PREVIOUS SVALBARD AUTUMN LIGHT EXPEDITIONS
Svalbard is situated at about 80 degrees north, so we schedule the expedition in accordance with prevailing weather and ice conditions. Our captain is an expert navigator in arctic conditions. He is an important advisor in planning the expedition in a manner that allows us to maximize the photo opportunities and enjoyment of this Svalbard photo tour.
Day 0 We always recommend to arrive Longyearbyen at least one day in advance.
Day 1 Departure from Longyearbyen through Isfjorden.
Day 2-4 Heading toward the ice, searching for Polar bears. Depending on the ice conditions, this will probably be north of Spitsbergen and Nordaustlandet.
Day 5 East toward Storøya, searching for walruses.
Day 6 Sailing south toward Bråsvellbreen and into Hinlopen with walruses and whales.
Day 7 Sailing north up Hinlopen.
Day 8 Liefdefjorden with the Monaco glacier.
Day 9 North-western corner of Spitsbergen with seals and great landscape.
Day 10 Sailing south-west for photographing whales in the morning. Alkehornet with bird cliffs, Arctic fox and Reindeer. Back to Longyearbyen late in the evening around 24:00.
Day 11 Leaving the ship and prepare the travel home.
We will have some excursions going ashore amongst walrus colonies (or walruses on the ice), bird cliffs, nice landscape or other interesting places.
